Perk's Offense Improving

One undersold story of the year thus far has been the gradual but consistently improving offensive game for Kendrick Perkins. My first thought was that he must have put in some extra work with Clifford Ray.

However, this article reminds us that he didn't have much of a summer to work on anything.

Paul Pierce: We are going to do it again

Paul Pierce of the NBA champion Boston Celtics, surprised some lucky high school student-athletes at a Modell's Sporting Goods store in Cambridge.

The lucky students got to see the 2008 championship trophy and got a Celtics shopping spree. Pierce says that he enjoys being a role model for young kids, and says he feels he isn't doing job until he puts a smile on their face.

As for Pierce, he has been smiling since the Finals, and says he'll keep smiling until someone knocks them off. He says that his knee is healthy, and is getting ready for training camp which just two weeks away.

Celtics Will Raise Banner #17 On October 28th

The Celtics should get off to their most spirited start in 21 years when they open the 2008-09 season against the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday, Oct. 28, at home. NBA commissioner David Stern will present championship rings at pregame ceremonies for the 7:30 game, a highlight video will be shown, and the first championship banner earned at TD Banknorth Garden will be raised. There is something about hoisting a plain, green-and-white cloth to the rafters that trumps even high-tech electronic prompting for raising the excitement level of fans.

"I don't really remember much about it," general manager Danny Ainge said about the Celtics' 16th banner raising in 1986. "But I do remember the banner going up more than the ring ceremony or anything else. "As a player, you just want to play. You want the ring and you know it's a special time, but there is also a game to play. It's a fun time. But you spend days and weeks preparing for the game and you don't prepare for a ceremony.

Thank You Ray Allen

The Herald ran a story on Ray Allen at a recent golf tourney.

“Now is the time where you get to enjoy the success that we’ve had, that when you’re playing you can’t enjoy, because each day is a grind to get to the next day. Here, I can just sit back and revel in it,” said Allen, who averaged 17.4 points per game for the Celtics in 2007-08. “This is probably the biggest crowd I’ve been in front of since Game 6, and to be here and play golf, you get a sense of the enormity of that situation, being able to play on that grand stage and see how many people watched from all over America.”

Revel in it Ray, revel all you can. You've had a long career where you've been nothing but a model citizen, superstar player, and all around great guy (not to mention a movie star). The only thing missing in that fairytale life was an NBA Championship, and because you were able to put what little ego you had aside and accept a role as third fiddle on this team, you were rewarded with the ultimate basketball prize.
